Emerald City Confidential takes the familiar characters and places in the fantasy novel The Wizard of Oz and puts a unique spin to the story. The setting in Emerald City Confidential is one that includes the darker side and a seedier environment. There are mob bosses and femme fatales amok. Similar to the spin the novel Wicked did this has its own unique flair.
The main focus of the pc game Emerald City Confidential is around a young detective called Petra. She is facing endless debt and is fighting with the odds against her against corruption, mob bosses, corrupt lawyers and much more. One crook lawyer in particular comes close to killing her when she comes very close to his business and underhand operations. All the trouble starts as a person called "Dee Gale" approached Petra to locate her missing fiancé, Anzel. With a lucrative fee on the table Petra takes the case only to find there is more to the case than meets the eye and more than she bargained for.
Emerald City Confidential follows the theme of an adventure game where the progress through the game is achieved by point and click. You are able to move through the game by talking to characters you meet along the way to progress and by the collection of items to use in solving puzzles that you encounter along the way. Travel is perhaps one of the features that are great about the game. The game has easy to use Gump taxi stands that you can use and get a ride via flying creatures and be instantly transported. There are no large delays and lags which can be pretty annoying and time consuming.
As a part of the plot magic is banned in Oz by the stern Queen Ozma, but you are quite able to learn spells on the side and these can come in very handy. Some of these can assist in risky situations such as the ability to escape from confinement. Track quests in the journal and get hints too as part of game play. There are medal rewards that you can achieve in Emerald City Confidential for getting to milestones in the game and buttons hidden in the game that you can locate to unlock bonus concept art.
Emerald City Confidential is a game with superb graphics and detailed scenes. Though the city is portrayed as on the way to being a slum there is a stunning look to it and all the dialogues and music are very realistic as well setting the scene to a great game with an excellent plot and lots of game play. This game has been well developed and will indeed live up to the expectations of players. The game is creative and cleverly designed to enrapt the player.
